12 pistes hallucinantes pour cette compilation qui marque le premier anniversaire de l'association KOKEKO qui organise des concerts sur Paris (Les Voûtes 13ème) et en Europe . Un aperçu des formations programmées lors des soirées par Kokeko nous est ici proposé. Des ovnis grouillants de trouvailles sonores, une mine d'or à sampler …
Des noms peu connus donc à par peut-être Aki Onda (qui a bossé avec Yamatsuka Eye par le passé) .Certains artistes semblent être en pleine improvisation bruitiste, d'autres en plein trip psychedelic-noise, ou s'aventurant dans des collages scotchants ( !).un petit air des Residents chez Crazy River, un étrange jazz déglingué chez Aya Collette qui délire en un français étrange et très rigolo. De l'indus noise chez Goth Trad assaisonnée de blips en tous genres. Des nappes et autres instruments indéfinissables chez Aki Onda, Makoto Kawabata, O-Pi-O et son excellent ‘Maya mountain', S-S-S et Jean-François Pauvros. Cliquetis et grincements chez , Kouhei Matsunaga, Phroq, Eric Cordier & Tetuzi Akiyama (avec parfois des irruptions de sons naturels et d'effets assez drôles, du bruit qui fait sourire et met de bonne humeur).
Un travail respectable qui attire irrésistiblement l'oreille, beaucoup de recherche dans le son chez tous ces artistes qui ne tombent pas dans le conceptuel inaudible mais parsèment leurs créations d'illustrations sonores humaines et organiques étranges, mystérieuses et souvent pleines d'humour. chnoriqué par REVCO

Kokeko is a French-Japanese association, actively busy in organising
Paris concerts and European tours, which for its first birthday gathers
and releases a series of contributions by some artists, more or less
known,
heavily involved in the circuit of the association.
Many unknown names (O-Pi-O, Goth-Trad, Phroq, Crazy River...), paired with
some important ones
(Eric Cordier, Tetuzi Akiyama, Aki Onda, Jean-François Pauvros, Makoto
Kawabata, Kouhei Matsunaga), and an overall homogeneity of works, flattened
on whinings, creakings and impro-ambient-noisy brushes, with
the exception of the child-like tongue-twister little march by Aya Collette,
the Latin-American itches of Amephone and hypno-dreaming ambiences of Kawabata.

Kokeko is a new label, based in Paris and involved in promotion and concerts
activity over Europe. This compilation is their first release, and on the face
of it, one could wonder if it was initiated by japanese
diaspora. All participants are mainly japanese and french musicians, sometimes
they play together, sometimes separately. There is only one name known to me
- it is Eric Cordier, famous electroacoustic composer and
musician, who founded La Grande Fabrique label and released some works on ameriacan
Ground Fault label. Cordier is also leader of seminal band UNACD, and part
of the Afflux trio. For this compilation, he also made
mastering. Another notable figure is Phroq, swiss multimedia artist active
since 1995 but just released his first CD on Shiver Sounds Records (command
of Pro-Helevetia, Swiss art councils). Several Phroq works can be
found on recent Solipsism, Neus 318 and Spirals Of Involtion CDR-releases.
Makoto Kawabata and
Jean-Francois Pauvros should be familiar to those into free-rock and late 70s
psychedelia. They recorded a collaboration work for PSF label and one can assume
their interests are constantly shifting to heavy droning
noise, like a recycled rock power diluted by disharmonic and dirty soundstream.
The big surprise for me is Cecile Babiole (ex-Nox) who was disappeared for
a years into something related to videoart performances.
There is no certain common direction on this compilation, you can find here
some real-time improvisations, laptop experiments, field recordings as well

Kokeko souffle sa première bougie et sort son premier disque. Une compilation aux titres introuvables ailleurs,
fruit de la curiosité musicale de l’association. Electroniques (O-Pi-O, Goth Trad) ou acoustiques (JF Pauvros,
Makoto Kawabata), bruitistes comme le guitariste Tetuzi Akiyama, léthargiques comme les nappes sonores
d’Aki Onda, les morceaux ont pour seule exigence l’audace musicale des musiciens. Résultat : 12 titres parfois
enivrants, parfois hermétiques, mais toujours inattendus.
